Crippled By Culture is a disability podcast that explores the intersection of culture, identity, and inclusion through honest conversations with advocates, creators, professionals, and community leaders. It's a space built specifically for stories that rarely get airtime elsewhere.
Hosted by Sean Gold, the podcast challenges stereotypes and highlights the lived experiences of people with disabilities while creating space for conversations about accessibility, representation, relationships, and social change. Guests come from all walks of the disability community and beyond, each bringing a different angle on what inclusion actually looks like in practice.
Each episode dives beyond assumptions to share authentic stories, amplify diverse voices, and examine how culture shapes the way disability is understood. From personal journeys to industry insights, Crippled By Culture brings awareness, education, and meaningful dialogue to listeners while advocating for a more inclusive world. Whether listeners are disabled themselves, love someone who is, or are simply ready to learn, there's a seat for them here.
Expect real talk, not a polished highlight reel. Episodes cover everything from access barriers and workplace accommodations to relationships, parenting, and joy, because disability touches every part of life, not just the hard parts.
The name Crippled By Culture is intentional. It reclaims language often used against disabled people and turns it into a lens for looking at how culture, media, and everyday assumptions shape the disability experience. That reclaiming is part of what makes this disability podcast feel different from a typical interview show.
Sean started this disability podcast because so many conversations about disability happen without disabled people actually in the room. Every episode is a chance to change that, one guest, one story, one honest conversation at a time.
Episodes are usually recorded remotely, so guests can join from anywhere, no travel required. That's made it easier to bring in voices from outside Sean's immediate St. Louis community, widening who gets heard well beyond one city.
Interviews take about 90 minutes, recorded over Zoom.
We do this on Crip Time. Please be prepared to be patient during pauses while Sean and his team communicate. It's part of what makes this disability podcast different: real communication, not rushed soundbites.
Sean communicates using AAC. During recordings, this team helps voice his words in real time, so every conversation on this disability podcast comes through clearly without losing his voice or his pace.
